Providing Global and Local Whole Person and Community Care

Kathryn White, MD

I grew up in Southern California, but found my call to serve the poor while traveling in India during college. I graduated from Williams College in 1991 with a BA in Psychology. I took a year off before medical school to work amongst the garbage dump dwellers in Mexico City, and then went on to become a Family Practice doctor and to get a Masters in Public Health. I attended medical school at the University of California San Diego and public health grad school at San Diego State University. I completed my residency in Family Practice at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Since graduating residency in 2000, I worked for seven years at a community clinic in South Central Los Angeles (South Central Family Health Center) before switching to work in Compton, the city that is near and dear to my church and my heart. Since 2007 I have worked at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center in Compton. I work 25 hours a week (part-time) at St. John’s and am the supervising physician at that site. My husband, Bill, is a pastor at our church, Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount, and our children, Timothy and Caris, are 9 and 7 years old.
