DIRECTIVES

The word compassion comes from Latin and means "to bear with" or "to suffer with." Compassion and empathy are essential human qualities that allow one to feel, understand, and respond to the suffering of others. They enable individuals to enter into and maintain relationships of caring. (Encyclopedia of Death and Dying) Our goal is to equip all those involved in the care of the dying with the knowledge and courage necessary to assist our dying in achieving a magnanimous death. This goal will be achieved through teaching and ministering to patient families as they care for their loved ones, and providing them with one on one bereavement support by Christian Lay Workers and Seminarian students. Work is under way to make sure that patients and families will receive the highest quality end of life care regardless of ability to pay, or legal status. We will also work to educate and motivate health professionals, clergy, hospital administration, and policy makers to work towards higher quality end of life care. This work will take place locally and internationally

Designed by professionals for health professionals, METS conferences provide practical, hands on training to more effectively treat patients - both spiritually and physically.
